DESCRIPTION:Love trails? Want to learn best practices on how to maintain them? Join us for the longest running Trails Education Program in the Southeast presented by MTB Atlanta and Georgia State Parks. \nVolunteers are essential to construct and maintain the trails you love to ride\, run or hike. MTB Atlanta is the leader in Trails Education in the Southeast and is partnering with Georgia State Parks at Fort Yargo State Parks in Winder\, Georgia to teach a sustainable trail workshop on Saturday January 14th 12-4. \nThis workshop is free to Georgia DNR and Georgia State Parks staff\, Georgia SORBA members\, and the Yargo Trail Crew. The class is available to all other trail enthusiasts\, out of state SORBA Chapters\, and Trail Organizations for a $40 fee. There is a 20 person max attendance. This workshop covers sustainable trail construction and maintenace. \nThe workshop is half classroom lecture\, half field work and is taught by Walt Bready. SUMMARY:National Trails Day Trail Work Day at Pinhoti 2
DESCRIPTION:Give back to the trails that we love!  National Trails Day will be celebrated at the Pinhoti Parking Area on FS Road 90B with some trail maintenance on Pinhoti 2 and a cookout and ride hosted by the NGMBA and MTB Atlanta.  \nDay and Time \nSaturday\, June 3\, 2023.  Meeting at 10a for Safety Talk\, start work at 10:30a.  We will work for a couple of hours\, enjoy food and hanging out with your fellow volunteers\, and a ride (if anyone has the energy). \nWhere to Meet and Directions \nWe will meet at the parking area at the end of FS Road 90B.  From downtown Ellijay\, take Hwy 52 West towards Ft Mountain.  Turn right on Gates Chapel Rd and follow it to the end.  Stay straight on Wilderness Trail and it turns into FS Road 90.  Continue on and keep a sharp lookout for FS Rd 90B on your left.  Turn left and it deadends into the parking area. \nLocation and Description \nPinhoti 2 needs some tread work (cleaning drains) and corridor clearance to improve drainage and site lines. \nWhat to Wear and Bring \nPlease wear appropriate clothing for the weather\, including: work gloves\, long pants\, boots (preferred) or sturdy shoes. No open-toed shoes allowed! Volunteers are also encouraged to wear a hat\, sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and carry any personal medical supplies (ie. epi- pen\, insulin\, inhalers).  Volunteers must wear helmets when performing work on USFS property.  Bike helmets are acceptable\, or helmets can be provided.  Water and snacks will be provided along with lunch.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring a small backpack to carry personal supplies and a potluck dish if you are so inclined. \nTools will be provided. \nRSVP to sorba.ngmba@sorba.org

DESCRIPTION:Join MTB Atlanta and the US Army Corps of Engineers\, West Point Lake for National Public Lands Day Saturday Sept. 24th 8:30-1. \nThis year we will focus on much needed corridor clearing\, mowing and sight line maintenance along the Turkey Run and Mayors Mile sections of the Lakeside Trail system. \nLimb lopping\, weed eating and mowing are in the scope of work. \nWe will have DR Brush mowers\, loppers\, and ground tools. \nPlease RSVP to this event so that we can notify the Corps regarding a headcount for lunch (provided 11-1) by Wendys. \nNote\, the address listed is the corps office\, but we will actually meet just past the office at the Eagle View Parking lot just below Resource Management headquarters and visitors center. \nIf you have any questions feel free to contact us here in the comments or contact us at sorbaatlanta@gmail.com.
